Yeah. When I first saw the guy I gave him the benefit of the doubt and a few bucks. I mean, lying or not, if you're in the parking lot trying to scam a few bucks off people, you're worse off than I am. So what the hell, I can afford to give you a couple bucks. But then when I called him on it a few days later, he's like: "You're the third person today to say that! You've got the wrong guy!" and he's acting all pissed off that I ruined his pitch.

Well, as far as I am concerned, there are better ways of making money, and better ways of making money for you. All of the vehemently self-sufficient homeless people will back me up on this. They also look down on people like that.

There was a study recently where people went up to the guys with the "will work for food" signs and offered $20 for an hour's work. A lot of them turned it down. I am of two minds about the homeless. On the one hand, if you're mentally ill, or financially wiped out by medical problems, or have some other terrible luck, then who knows what kind of hole you might fall into? And who knows how hard it might be to climb back up? On the other hand, I can't help thinking that a lot of homeless people have used up all their favors with all their family and friends somehow. In either case, I usually give money to the first person who asks me. Why? Because I can, very easily, and as a show of gratitude for not being on the other end of the transaction.

That is a good position to take. I give them the benefit of the doubt unless they reek of scam. Rating: 4
